(2) Shadow/Highlight (Exposure adjustments to bring out details)
(3) Sharpen eyes to enhance them (optional) :Apply Unsharpen Mask to the eyes.
(4) Unsharp Mask (if necessary) :
Change Mode from "8 bit RGB" to "16 bit Lab" (Apply Blur to A channel, Blur to B channel, Unsharp Mask to L channel) , then bring it back to "8 bit RGB".
Tips: (1) Work in layers (Command/Ctrl + J). (2) Tweak opacity for fine tuning.
What's ideal, however, is to shoot a scene with good composition, accurate focus, and proper exposure once and for all and be done with it. Then I won't have to cheat with the help of Photoshop. Easier said than done!
