I've found that a 1/1000 second shutter speed is not fast enough. It fails to freeze the moving/running dogs. All the photos shot today were taken at this shutter speed as an experiment. Too bad it didn't work out.
The standard "sports" or "action" mode will get the job done. The action (sports) mode guarantees the highest shutter speed possible together with shake reduction and it even automatically comes with AFC (Continuous Auto Focus).
